St. George Orthodox Church of Spring Valley is a parish community of the Antiochian Orthodox Archdiocese of North America, under the authority of His Eminence Metropolitan JOSEPH of New York, and Bishop ANTHONY of the Diocese of Toledo and the Midwest. Father Mark Sahady is the Pastor.
St. George was founded by Lebanese immigrants, and we are proud of our Middle Eastern heritage. Today, however, we have a unique calling as the sole Orthodox Church in the Illinois Valley and surrounding area. We are a multi-ethnic community, happy to serve all local Orthodox Christians and those interested in Orthodoxy.
Our mission statement
The mission of St. George Orthodox Church is to love God and to grow closer to God through worshiping together in the Liturgical Life of the Church. We worship and pray in English together as a faithful community that witnesses to the Good News of Jesus Christ. As dedicated stewards, we share in fellowship and love, teach and lead by example as we grow together through forgiveness, service, education, and outreach to each other and our community.
Our Vision Elements
- Increase membership in the Body of Christ.
- Advance spiritual growth with each other and promote generational parish growth.
- Serve parishioners and the community through development and implementation of outreach programs to those in need and the greater community.
- Identify, develop, and implement strategies that enhance and ensure its financial stability.
